Residents,
It has come to the attention of the board about animals in the Village. Residents should be aware that no animal may run at large in the Village. All animals must be on a leash. I understand that an owner may feel that they have full control over an animal and may know how they interact with others, however, other residents may not, and do not want an animal running up to them if they are unsure on how the dog behaves. Every resident should be able to enjoy our Village and not worry about animals who are not on a leash. This is a small town and dogs will get out and run loose so please be sure to keep an extra eye on your animal to ensure this does not happen and take extra steps to elimate any possible chances of your dog running out.
With that being said, The Village has signed a contract with Bureau County Animal Control. If your dog is taken by animal control there will be a fee each time. If one does see a dog running at large please contact Animal Control (BCAC) and let them handle the situation, do not attempt to engage with the dog and cause harm to onesself. Do not feed any stray or at large animal. The Village has an animal registration form that all animal owners must fill out and turn into the Village Office, the link can be found (here) as well as in the forms & permits section. If one has any questions you can refer to the Village oridinance link to have a better understanding.
We are currently looking into the stray cat population as well. If you own any cats they should be registered with the Village as well. Do NOT feed any stray cats in the Village this only makes the matters worse.
Keep your fellow neighbors in mind and follow the leash ordinace to ensure we can keep our town safe and where people can enjoy it.
