The Village of Tiskilwa is pleased to announce this year’s Citizens of the Year award goes out to Sondra and Scott Owens.
This award is given to an individual, or individuals, who enhance the lives of the residents within the Village of Tiskilwa. Some of the criteria that is needed to receive the award include;
- Outstanding volunteer commitment that benefits an individual, group or the entire community of Tiskilwa
- Unique achievement that benefits our community or society in general
- Model citizen who reflects the positive values of the Village
- Exceptional personal qualities.
They have found the time in their schedules to accomplish projects that enhance the appearance of our Village and community. Earlier this year Scott and Sondra organized a joint effort with other dedicated groups and individuals to enhance the North end of the Village welcome sign area. This included planting a memorial tree and running electrical wire to illuminate the area during the night time to display the Welcome sign, tree and as well as the large memorial rock they placed in the past. As well as, For the past 12 years they have helped maintain and enhance the Indian Rock Garden at the Museum on Main.
In addition, for the past fifteen years they have been the leaders in keeping the Tiskilwa High School Alumni Association going. This requires dependability, integrity, cooperation and spirit. The THS Alumni Banquet has been an outstanding feature and event during the Pow Wow Days weekend by annually hosting nearly 150 alumni and guests. They have also organized a rotating committee for the THS alumni to ensure the tradition continues one into the future.
Be sure to congratulate both of these individuals when you see them and thank them for their commitment, you will also have the opportunity to thank them during the Pow Wow Days parade in which they will be a part of the parade.
The Village of Tiskilwa congratulates and thanks Sondra and Scott Owens for their dedication to this wonderful Village and we are very grateful for their sacrifice to ensure our Village remains the Gem of the Valley.
